Clock Synchronization (Class 8) Best Practices and Daylight Saving Time (DST) Transitions

Managing Real-Time Clock (RTC) Drift and DST Shifts
Accurate billing and load profile alignment require sub-second RTC synchronization across all grid nodes.
Time Synchronization Methods
- Method 1 (
adjust_to_quarter): Rounds clock to nearest 15-minute boundary. - Method 2 (
adjust_to_measuring_period): Resets drift without corrupting profile integration windows. - Method 3 (
adjust_to_minute): Synchronizes seconds to zero. - Method 4 (
adjust_to_preset_time): Two-step synchronized broadcast to prevent network jitter.
Daylight Saving Time (DST) Configuration
daylight_savings_begin(Attribute 4): e.g. Last Sunday of March at 02:00:00.daylight_savings_end(Attribute 5): e.g. Last Sunday of October at 03:00:00.daylight_savings_deviation(Attribute 6): Typically+60minutes.daylight_savings_enabled(Attribute 7): Booleantrue.
When DST shifts back 1 hour, ensure your HES profile collector handles the duplicate hour timestamp by checking Clock Status bit 7 (
daylight_saving_active)! - Method 1 (

In the meter hardware RTC, temperature-compensated crystal oscillators (TCXO) achieve $\pm 2\text{ ppm}$ accuracy (less than 1 minute drift per year even across $-40^\circ\text{C}$ to $+85^\circ\text{C}$ industrial temperature ranges).

Never execute
adjust_to_minutedirectly during an active 15-minute load profile integration period, as this causes duplicate or missing interval records in Class 7 buffers.
